FAQS

What should i expect during my first massage vist?

I will start by asking you some general questions to establish how you are feeling mentally, energy wise and physically in your body, I will ask what areas you would like worked on, if there are any areas you do not want me to touch, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed, and to determine what massage is appropriate for you.

I am a very intuitive therapist and I will often suggest a treatment based on how I feel your energy is when we meet, for example if you arrive stressed and anxious I might suggest incorporating a reiki treatment with a balancing massage such as Indian Head or Thai Foot Reflexology, but its only ever a suggestion you are free to take or leave, ultimately YOU know what’s best for your body and what you need on any given day.

It is important to let me know of all health concerns and medications you are currently taking before your appointment so I can adapt the session to your specific needs without doing any harm.

DO I HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY UNDRESSED?

You should undress to the level you are comfortable. For a full body massage, most ladies get undressed down to their briefs. However if you feel more comfortable leaving your bra on you can just take down the straps so I can easily massage the back, neck and shoulders. I will work around the clothes you wish to leave on as best as I can. I will only uncover the part of your body being worked on. I will always give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table by leaving the room briefly and during a full body massage I will cover you with a large blanket when I ask you to shift from your front on to your back. I will leave the room at the end of the treatment to allow you to get dressed again in privacy.

You are always free to stop a treatment if you feel uncomfortable for any reason. I want you to feel safe and looked after.

can i talk during my session?

Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax.

The important thing to remember is that this treatment is all about you relaxing and enjoying the experience. I would discourage talking all the way through your treatment in the hope that you will relax, let your mind float free and enter a state of massage bliss. In many instances, people may feel more relaxed starting off talking, and as the massage progresses, enter quiet states of relaxation.

Some people fall asleep during a massage or Reiki session and I take this as a huge compliment that you are enjoying the treatment so please don’t be embarassed if this happens to you! Also any tummy rumbles are perfectly normal as are deeply emotional experiences. If you feel the need to laugh, cry, or even shake, I will not judge you, I will understand and I will always ask you if you want to continue the massage or take a break. During Reiki its especially important to remain silent.

The important issue here is that there are times when you need to speak up. If I’m doing anything to make you uncomfortable, you should let me know immediately. Also, please let me know if you get too warm or too cold, if the room is too bright, if you would prefer not to have music playing in the background or if the pressure needs to be changed (lighter or deeper). If something is not working for you - speak up! It's OK! I wont pester you with questions, I will use my intuition to guide me on what is best for your body during that visit.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET A MASSAGE OR REIKI TREATMENT?

I highly recommend having a massage once a month, at least thirty minutes, but ideally one hour, I advise this because most of the muscular tension and knots we hold in our bodies are brought on by our everyday activities; sitting hunched over a laptop or steering wheel for example and its best not to let your body get into such a state before you eventually give in to your body’s screams and pay me a visit, regular maintenance of the body is a must to keep on top of any aches and tightness. Also its very good for stress relief to have at least one hour dedicated to yourself once a month, try not to view it as a luxury you can’t afford, see it as a non-negotiable in looking after yourself on a physical, emotional and mental level.

Remember, no one will do it for you, unless you are lucky enough to have a kind loved one who buys you a gift voucher, make yourself a priority, you are worth it!

With Reiki, if you are going through a particularly tough time I’d recommend booking in at least three to five sessions. I also like to combine Reiki with Massage as a lot of the physical tension we hold in our bodies is also caused by emotional and mental strain.

We will be able to talk more specifically after your first session when I have had a chance to evaluate your body's tissues and your emotional needs.

how will i feel after my treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed. Perhaps a little spaced out, especially after having Reiki but this is temporary! Soon a renewed energy will be felt and a sense of lightness coming off the shoulders.

After your session you should increase your water intake a bit. Just a glass or two more than normal is usually fine. This helps keep your body's tissues hydrated and healthy. I always advise spending less time on devices after a session if possible, allowing for moments of silence even contemplation and inviting in self-awareness,also, if you can take a nap afterwards amazing!

Otherwise doing as little as possible would be my advice, having a nourishing, warming meal or choosing to have a bath/early night, basically keeping the self-love going for as long as possible! Be kind to yourself! You deserve it!

when should i not get a massage?

There are only a few conditions which would prevent you from enjoying a massage. You should not book a massage if you have a fever, cold/flu, or contagious skin infection. That's it.

There are many other conditions in which I may need to adapt my techniques (i.e. arthritis or osteoporosis) or avoid an area completely (i.e. cuts or burns). With some conditions it is a good idea to get an approval from your physician before you receive massage (cancer, certain heart conditions, pregnancy). This doesn't mean you can't get massage. But its always better to err on the side of caution.

Any questions please let me know and I can advise you about your specific needs.
