BEGINNERS YOGA

Lynsey Mckenzie Holistic Healing & Yoga

Welcome Beginners!

I have put together this page for people who have never tried yoga before but might be curious to find out more about what yoga can do for them.

What is Yoga?
Derived from the Sanskrit word “yuji,” meaning yoke or union, yoga is an ancient practice that brings together mind and body. It incorporates breathing exercises, meditation and poses designed to encourage relaxation and reduce stress.

What Is the Best Yoga for Beginners?
If you are relatively unfit or inflexible I would highly recommend trying out a restorative class to begin with, from there hatha, yin and vinyasa in that order!  This will give you time to build up your strength and flexibility. If you are fit and flexible you can jump in to any of my classes.

How to practise Yoga
Yoga is performed in comfortable clothing and bare feet on a yoga mat with optional yoga props such as blocks, straps and bolsters, however don’t worry if you don’t own any props, you can substitute these easily with bed cushions and blankets for my restorative and nidra classes.

How often should I practise Yoga?
Ideally 3 times a week, if you want to get the most out of your yoga practise, of course we all know life gets in the way sometimes but by keeping consistent and returning to your mat you will feel the benefits much quicker, make the time for yourself, you are worth it!
